Product Description For 4 or more players in teams, Electronic Catch Phrase is the game of 10,000 words and a million laughs. The self-contained electronic unit has words, categories and a timer and scorekeeper. Perfect for taking on vacation. Requires 3 "AAA" alkaline batteries (not included).
Editorial Review Ever play "Hot Potato" with a spud that ticks and talks? Welcome to Electronic Catch Phrase, the battery-powered (three AAA, not included) blend of clue deduction and race against the clock. Two teams of two or more players each alternate turns, guessing the answers to clues in 11 categories, from Food & Drink to Tech & Inventions. Set the timer on the discus-like game unit, and the clue-giving countdown begins; if a team's guess matches the response on the game's readout, pass the unit to the opponents. Just don't get caught holding this potato when the buzzer sounds (after about a minute of increasingly insistent beating), as the other team will score a point, possession being nine- tenths of the "Awww!" With its infectious mix of fast, nerve-wracking, high- pressure passing the buck, Electronic Catch Phrase spreads a serious case of fun. --Tony Mason

Not enough clues and not challenging January 5, 2009 S. Delsanto While this game was fun, it wasn't nearly challenging enough. The clues were simple to act and speak out. There aren't enough clues per category either. We were out of clues after playing for about 30 minutes for some categories. I bought this game from Target on sale for $23 and it was definitely NOT worth it! I'm just glad that I didn't pay the $40 plus dollars that it normally cost. I thought there had to be some mistake, but sure enough, we were out of clues and the clues that we did have for other categories were repetitive. For example, the word "anti" kept popping up over and over. "anti-virus, anitseptic, antibiotic, antidote". There were many other clues that were similar. Maybe the board game is better, but we didn't find this challenging enough.
Lots of Fun for Kids of all ages December 29, 2008 Johnson 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a 9 year old and a 6 year old and they love this game. The words or phrases that come up are not too hard and have taught them additional vocabulary. The other nice thing is the game is very interactive and the kids really enjoy playing with the older kids (parents). Many games are not built for enjoyment for several age groups but this one is.
Fun for all December 28, 2008 Susan Lattuca (Michigan USA) I bought this for my grandson who is 12 years old. He really likes playing it. I also have a friend who has it and us grownups play it all the time. It is a good time for all!!
Good game for teams December 27, 2008 thirtysomething (Des Moines, IA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Played this game three straight nights during holidays. Teams were boys vs. girls, or old vs. young, etc...and it was a blast. Good for all ages -- we had a 9 year old playing and he did fine, with the oldest player in her 60's. Provided a lot of laughs. Only drawback was that after two nights of use, we started recycling through phrases...I would have hoped that given it is an electronic version, it could have a lot more phrases stored in "memory". Am guessing that in a few weeks if used with a different group of people, it would be fine, since other people would give "clues" and be guessing answers. Still recommend highly.
Very disappointed! December 27, 2008 S. Worcester (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first version of this game is one of my very favorites. I thought I was upgrading by buying the electronic version. Boy, was I mistaken. Four of us playing in one evening - less than two hours - went through ALL the words and phrases. What do we do now?
