My cat HATES this. He doesn't like the feel of it so he won't even sit on it! The De Shedder is the only thing that actually gets some use. Don't waste your money on this.

I have had this Brick on my floor for months and they have never ever come near it. My cats are used to scratch post but have never tried this great in concept but... just does'nt not work.

Only one of my four cats will use this. Aside from that, It doesn't dull the nails, it sharpens them. Complete false advertising. Don't spend the money. Find some other way to protect your furniture, because this makes the situation worse.

Cats are finicky. When I bring home a new food, toy, or scratching post there is no guarantee any of my five cats will like it. I bought Emery Cat about three months ago.
Pros:
The cats use it and seem to enjoy it.
They love the toy.
The scratching surface can be replaced when it wears out.
Biggest Pro: It is the only scratching device that seems to significantly reduce couch-scratching.
Cons:
It doesn't trim nails.
Like all cardboard scratchers, it gets really messy after a while - little pieces of torn up cardboard everywhere.
When the cardboard loosens up, so does the "emery" material, scattering grains of sand that can scratch hardwood floors.
Details:
On the first day, the cats were attracted to the catnip, & they LOVED the feather toy, but they didn't scratch. On the second day, one cat started scratching the cardboard enthusiastically. A week later, two cats were scratching it regularly. A month later three cats were using the scratcher, and now, after three months, four of my five cats use the Emery Cat. (The fifth cat doesn't count since he's never used any commercial scratching post.)
For the four cats who use it, Emery Cat seems to be the scratching surface they like best. I notice that they scratch the couch much less often. (I also have the Ultimate Scratching Post which my cats use, but not with as much enthusiasm as the Emery Cat.)
Bottom line: Although it doesn't trim nails, Emery Cat does keep my cats from scratching the sofa (most of the time), and that makes it worth the price of the refills I'm about to order.

What a piece of misery and disappointment.
I have three cats of various ages. They were all using the flat cardboard type scratchers but I saw the TV ad and decided to get them the Emery Cat so that just MAYBE I wouldn't have to keep wrestling with them to get their claws trimmed.
I took the cardboard units away from them and put in the Emery Cat. They HATED it. In five weeks of it being around there was maybe 50 seconds of scratching. They'd stand on it, but not engage in any scratching. I used plenty of catnip on it too. They'd sniff it and roll around on it but they just never got the idea that it was for scratching. They just considered it a piece of furniture. I tried everything I could think of to feed them the idea that this was a great scratching device. No response at all.
I threw out the Emery Cat and put back the two cardboard units and instantly they went back to vigorous scratching on it.
I think the people who invented and decided to market this thing either did VERY little testing and/or decided, "what the hell, we'll just sell a half-million units because the commercial is good. Besides, nobody files a lawsuit for being screwed out of 20 bucks."
I'm going back to PetSmart and try to get them to yank their stock off the shelf. If I see anyone at the checkout counter with one I'm going to try to convince her not to buy it.
The one thing I've learned this year and now made an ironclad rule is: before buying any new and/or expensive consumer item, PARTICULARLY one on an infomercial, read the reviews on Amazon!
