Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction is the fifth installment in the wildly popular Splinter Cell series. A stealth-action combat game centered around the continuing adventures of black ops agent Sam Fisher, Splinter Cell: Conviction continues where the storyline of the earlier Splinter Cell: Double Agent left off. Packed with a mix of an engaging story, classic Splinter Cell stealth action, unique co-op gameplay and new gameplay mechanisms that are applicable to both single player and multiplayer modes, it is a worthy addition Splinter Cell catalog of games. The return of Sam Fisher. View larger. | Unique co-op gameplay and campaign. View larger. | Jaw dropping visuals. View larger. | All-new combat functionality. View larger. | Story A few years have passed since the cliff hanger conclusion of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, in which Agent Sam Fisher undertook a particularly dirty mission, full of questionable actions, in the shadow of the inexplicable and unmourned death of his daughter. Fisher is now a renegade operative digging into the events of the past and he doesn't like what he has found. His personal investigation into his daughter's death reveals that he's been betrayed by his former agency, the Third Echelon. The agency responds by pursuing him, but as he works to elude them he becomes aware of a deadly terrorist plot that threatens millions. He is uniquely positioned and prepared to act against this, but success is doubtful without the help of former friends from the Third Echelon team, resulting in a series of life and death situations for himself and the country where trust can by no means be assumed. Gameplay Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction, as with all games in the Splinter Cell series, is a tactical stealth-action game. In single player modes players take on the role of Sam Fisher and engage in a series of missions utilizing high-tech weaponry, gadgets, lethal hand-to-hand combat and interrogation skills. Overall objectives and the necessary steps to achieve them are challenging, yet always clear via dual verbal and visual expression that seamlessly alerts players as they progress through missions. In addition, Conviction enhances the world of stealth combat that has made the Splinter Cell franchise a runaway hit for years through a series of revolutionary new gameplay features. These include: - Mark and Execute - A gameplay mechanism for eliminating several enemies at once, Mark and Execute allows players to "Mark" multiple enemies, or points in the surrounding environment for termination in batches. Once this is done, a close-combat kill is required, after which the player can activate the "Execute" portion of the mechanism to dispose of all enemies in a cinematic manner. A limited amount of Mark functionality is attached to players' weapons, so this ability must be used wisely.
- Last Known Position - Last Known Position is a visual representation of where the game's AI assumes you are, based on where you were last sighted. This provides players with a wide array of options, including setting traps for enemies, flanking maneuvers or simply disappearing while you are thought to be elsewhere.
- Experience System - Successful completion of objectives via the Persistent Elite Creation System earns players rewards in the form of experience points. These can be used to upgrade weapons and gadgets that will allow for cleaner, quieter and more deadly attacks.
Co-op Story Mode Prologue, the co-op story mode included in Splinter Cell: Conviction is available either in split-screen local play or via Xbox LIVE. Prologue offers an exclusive prequel campaign to that found in single player mode and features new characters and settings, three difficulty settings, three sub game modes and four maps. Designed to stand apart from, as well as supplement the single player campaign, gameplay mechanics available within it include shareable Mark and Execute target points and Last Known Position, as well as teammate revival functionality via a portable defibrillator, the ability to work with a teammate to eliminate enemies who have captured you, and more. Key Game Features - A New Level of Splinter Cell Action - A full arsenal of cutting-edge innovations allow you to outflank foes with the Last Known Position system, tag and eliminate enemies using the Mark and Execute feature, and much more.
- Blockbuster Experience - A unique storytelling style keeps you on the edge of your seat as you navigate the explosive world of a renegade agent where trust is impossible and justice requires you to go above the law.
- Jaw Dropping Visuals - A revolutionary new graphic direction delivers an utterly seamless gameplay experience that’ll keep you totally engrossed in the story of Sam Fisher.
- Explosive Xbox LIVE Play - Addictive multiplayer modes, content downloads, messaging and voice support and more amp up the dramatic intensity like never before.
- An Exclusive Co-op Story Mode - "Prologue" is an exclusive story mode featuring new characters, settings, four exclusive maps and more. It is only available within Conviction's Co-op mode.

Great game, a few flaws... August 29, 2010 Virocman I bought this game a little while ago, after playing the demo. Overall, I liked it.
GOOD:
I liked the new control scheme, i.e. one button maneuvers. I really enjoyed the freedom it gave you to chose your path, even though the destination was the same. The varied ways to kill were exciting. The gameplay was very smooth, and the graphics were wonderful. It was also exciting to go through a venue and kill 10-20 people without any sort of backup. They did a good job letting you decide whether to take it as a "run and gun" sort of game, or stealth. The constant sight warnings were helpful, and added to the tension.
The Deniable Ops part of the game was pretty cool as well. I liked the option to play the multiplayer missions alone, and not have enemy reinforcements show up because your partner got sighted.
The weaponry was very modern, but there was no real motivation to use anything other than the first pistol you started with, as there were no flaws.
Multiplayer was fun, but repetitive. The Hunter mode was alright, but really was just the Co-op missions without the cutscenes. Not very exciting there, but not bad either. The versus mode was cool.
BAD:
The plot was not very thought out. Naturally, Sam was angry about his daughter dying. So, of course the entire game is based on him getting revenge. Basically, run, kill all guards, interrogate, kill main man, repeat. But you didn't have much time to contemplate that during gameplay, because of the action in between.
While there was a wide variety of modern weaponry, there really was no motivation to use any of it, as the given pistol worked perfectly fine as it was. Also, all pistols have unlimited ammo. This type of thing reminds me of arcade games, and is not what I wanted to experience in a Splinter Cell game. I was disappointed. However, I got over it very quickly.
While multiplayer was invigorating at first, the lack of many, varied venues became repetitive and boring. Also the fact that only two can play at one time, even online, was disappointing. The only problem I had with the Versus mode was that the players spend most of the time killing guards and finding each other; there was no real action going on between the players. Also, each death took away a kill, and each death caused by the other player took away 5. So a player could have killed 10 guards, and gotten killed twice by the other player, and lose. I did NOT like that. But again, not really a deciding factor for me.
Lastly, and really the main problem about this game for me, was the willingness of the NPCs to vocalize their thoughts (i.e.-they talk WAY too much). Personally, if I knew Sam Fisher was pissed at my boss and had to come through me to get to him, and not only that, but was in the building I was guarding, and no longer using Government-approved interrogation methods, I would NOT be yelling taunts about his dead daughter almost non-stop the entire time. The enemies were constantly abusing poor Sam, so that the player only had to stop and listen for a few seconds before they knew exactly where all the enemies were hiding.
Lastly, the amount of swearing was outrageous. A few curse words here and there, okay, that's fine, but almost every other word was a curse, and believe me these guys talked a lot. Instead of improving the realism as perhaps the creators had hoped it would, it actually brought it down and reminded the player it was a game, because no real person would be that vocal, especially when they knew it involved Sam Fisher.
But again, it was overall a good game.
If I had the option to go back and buy this game again, I would. It is by far my favorite game as of now.
And of course, if I would, being me, that means all of you suddenly have the urge to go out and buy it this instant. I mean if I bought it and liked it, it must be fit for mankind.
You're welcome.
Insincerely,
Your Friendly Neighborhood Virocman.
Total Waste!! August 21, 2010 Parvez Hussain 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is completely a different game unlike the previous version. I played all the previous episode and totally enjoyed. This game is a waste. Why do they have to add the foul languages?? I played a couple of hours and stopped playing. Take my words. DO NOT BUY IT!!
just is not the same game August 19, 2010 PG 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This franchise used to be great, you could kill enemies, pick up bodies and move them out of sight; you can't do that anymore. It seems more like a twitch shooter disguised as a stealth game. Dont get me wrong the game is fun and has a decent story but it's not like the older splinter cell games (which I've bought all of). I hope UBI Soft goes back to the old splinter cell mechanic. This game seems too easy now and not very challenging - which is what made the previous games interesting. Wait for a price drop and buy this one.
Almost perfect August 13, 2010 Maha S. Khader (Qatar middle east) Splinter Cell Conviction is a great stealth game and althoug there is less sneaking around to do, it makes up for this by adding great gadgets, executions, awesome co-op play, excellent story and overrall a fun experience.
I would not like to spoil the story line but let's just say Sam Fisher is looking for sweet revenge.
The controls in this game are excellent and the cover system in this game is the best i have seen in any game.
Good game, but not much of a challenge August 9, 2010 Chuck Kasek (Columbus, OH) I'd never played a Splinter Cell game, nor had I played the demo for this one. I bought it when it was a lightning deal, after having skipped the 250GB bundle to replace my old 20gb unit when the game was released. I like the game, but I do have a few complaints
First complaint - the main campaign is somewhat short. I beat it playing several hours a night over a couple of nights. My brother beat it in two nights, maybe 10 hours total. There is some level of re-playability if you want to go back through on a harder difficulty or earn challenges.
Second - The deniable-ops stuff adds a bit of value, but gets very repetitive and is also not that difficult. My brother cleared through that on the 'reality' difficulty without too much problem. I might go through it for the achievements, but after watching him play, I'm not too worried about it.
Third - Co-op doesn't really require cooperation. We've just started getting into the co-op, playing split-screen. Aside from requiring two people to breach some doors, there isn't much that actually encourages any level of cooperation. Most levels you could probably get through solo.
Despite these drawbacks, I've had a good time playing the game, and now that the list price has dropped twenty bucks, i'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good stealth/action oriented game.
